Christian's work captures the speed and intensity of sport, while also often focusing on the drama of human expressions. Capable of shooting both highly stylised images and grounded portraits, his work shows both skill and diversity.
The key kit that the pros use to take their photographs
The EOS-1D X Mark III is the ultimate creative toolkit, with superb low-light performance, deep learning AF and 5.5K RAW video. "What I really love and didn't expect about the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III is the AF. It's almost impossible to miss a picture with it. I didn't think it could get better than the Mark II, but it did. It's just crazy," says Christian.
A super lightweight 600mm f/4 lens, perfect for professional wildlife, sports and news photographers. "For Alpine skiing, my favourite is the EF 600mm f/4L IS III USM. It's just fantastic for skiing, as you need long lenses because the athletes are far away," says Christian.
A standard zoom lens that goes just that little bit further, whether you’re shooting photography or video. "With this lens I can shoot scenes happening close to me. One of the most important things for me as a sports photographer is the autofocus. The autofocus speed is great and this lens is so accurate," says Christian.
A professional-grade 200-400mm f/4 lens with a built-in 1.4x extender that boosts focal lengths to 280-560mm. Christian says: "I use this when I'm shooting football. I can capture high-quality pictures with maximum flexibility, and I can shoot action across almost the whole field without changing lenses. Together with the built-in converter the range of focal length is great."
Low light, fast action and lots of water… Extreme sports photographer Richard Walch takes the EOS-1D X Mark III on its toughest challenge yet.
